What Face Fillers Are Right For Me?

It is common for your face to change as you age, making your skin look not as plump and youthful as it once did. A natural loss of volume causes the face to age, making the cheeks flatten and the skin to sag. If you want to reclaim the radiant, fresh, tautness of your youth, facial filler may be the perfect solution.

At Coastal Aesthetics, our patients love the instant fullness and lift from facial fillers. Plus, fillers are quick and painless with minimal downtime. So, if you are wondering, “which facial fillers are right for me,” Coastal Aesthetics can help you choose the best cosmetic treatment to improve your areas of concern.

What Are Facial Fillers?

Face fillers restore volume to the face, which can help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, enhance facial contours, and add definition. Our skin loses elasticity and volume as we age, leading to sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and a hollow or sunken appearance. Fillers restore lost volume to the skin and underlying tissues, which can help to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made of various ingredients, depending on the type of filler. The most common ingredient in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps to hydrate and plump up the skin. Other fillers may contain synthetic materials or substances that stimulate collagen production.

Each dermal filler for the face has its unique properties and benefits, so the right face filler for you will depend on your desired results.

Here are some of the most common ingredients in dermal fillers and what they do:

  • Hyaluronic acid

This substance is a natural component of the skin that helps to keep it hydrated and plump and joints lubricated. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid fillers add volume and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Calcium hydroxylapatite

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are made up of a mineral-like compound found in bones. When used as a filler, it adds volume to the skin and stimulates collagen production, leading to longer-lasting results.

  • Poly-L-lactic acid

This is a synthetic material that stimulates the production of collagen in the skin and is used to add volume to the cheeks and midface. When used as a facial filler, the result is gradual improvement in skin texture and volume.

  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)

PMMA face fillers are made up of a synthetic material used to fill in deep wrinkles and folds. PMMA microspheres are suspended in a gel-like substance and, when injected into the skin, create a support structure that helps smooth the skin.

What Are Natural Face Fillers?

Natural face fillers are a type of dermal filler that use materials that occur naturally in the body to enhance facial features. The most common natural face fillers are hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate and plump up the skin. When used as a filler, hyaluronic acid can add volume to the cheeks, lips, and other areas of the face, as well as smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.

Other natural face fillers may include fat transfer, which involves taking fat from one area of the body and injecting it into the face to add volume, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which involves using the patient’s blood plasma to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture.

Why Juvederm Face Fillers Are Right For You

At Coastal Aesthetics, we use Juvederm dermal fillers for optimal results. Juvederm products are designed to address specific needs as fillers for the face. Here are the two types of Juvederm dermal fillers and how they can be used:

Juvederm Volbella XC

This is the first FDA-approved injectable for the lips and perioral lines (also known as smoker lines). It is a safe, effective solution for smoother, more plump lips and less visible lines around the mouth. If you want to improve your lips and fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth, Volbella XC is the right filler for you for optimal results.

Juvederm Volbella XC contains hyaluronic acid (HA) to help skin retain moisture and softness. Volbella XC is a clear gel that is injected directly into and around the lips using an ultrafine needle. Juvederm Volbella XC temporarily plumps the lips and smooths the appearance of fine lines around the mouth. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection by reducing the pain sensitivity.

Juvederm Voluma XC

Juvederm Voluma XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface, providing both lifting and contouring specifically to the cheek and chin area.  If you want to improve the look of sagging skin or fine lines and wrinkles in your midface area, Voluma XC is the right filler for you.

Voluma XC is a gel filler that can be injected into the cheek area to lift the skin and restore volume lost from aging. It can also be used in the chin for added definition and to improve an aging profile. This FDA-approved injectable is made from a modified form of thin hyaluronic acid (or HA) gel, a natural complex sugar that occurs within our bodies.

Face Fillers FAQs

How Long Does Juvederm Face Filler Last?

Juvederm Volbella XC can last up to one year with optimal treatment. Avoid smoking, sun exposure and use quality skincare products to maintain the results. Although Voluma XC results vary from patient to patient, you can expect any improvement to at least six months following your treatment. Some patients have reported that effects have lasted up to two years.

What Is The Downtime For Face Fillers?

Cosmetic face fillers like Juvederm Volbella and Voluma XC provide immediate results. Initially, there can be some swelling or bruising at the injection site. Juvederm Volbella XC takes about two weeks to settle before you can see the final results. However, some patients find that the swelling subsides after only a few days; others exhibit signs of swelling for up to two weeks.

Are Face Fillers Safe?

The safety of facial fillers depends on a variety of factors, including the type of filler used, the injection technique, and the qualifications and experience of the provider. However, in general, hyaluronic acid fillers are considered to be some of the safest fillers for the face.
