Juvederm Voluma XC

It’s common for the cheeks to flatten and the skin to sag as we age. This effect is caused by a natural loss of volume in the cheek area, or what some experts call age-related midface volume loss or deflation. Juvederm Voluma XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface, providing both lifting and contouring specifically to the cheek and chin area.

What is Juvederm Voluma XC?

Voluma XC is a gel that is injected into the cheek area to gently lift the skin and restore volume lost from aging. It can also be used in the chin to create better definition and improve an aging profile. The FDA-approved injectable  is made from a modified form of thin hyaluronic acid (or HA) gel, a natural complex sugar that occurs within our bodies. The role of HA in the skin is to help the skin retain water, in turn keeping it well hydrated and soft.

As we age, wrinkles and fine lines develop on the face, and the youthful contours of the face begin to diminish, which ages the face–the cheeks flatten out and the chin loses definition. . Juvederm Voluma XC is designed to temporarily add volume to the cheeks and chin  for a more defined  appearance. The gel  also contains lidocaine in the gel to improve the comfort of the injection by reducing the pain during the procedures.

Is it safe?

Juvederm Voluma XC is the only filler to receive U.S. FDA approval for the augmentation of the chin region, which is the second approval from the FDA. The first approval for Juvederm Voluma was for cheek augmentation to correct age-related mid-face volume deficit.

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates for Juvederm Voluma XC are in good overall health and have a desire to improve their chin and/or fill in and lift sunken, hollow, or gaunt cheeks without surgery. You are not an ideal candidate if you have a known allergy to lidocaine, as this is present in the injectable to reduce discomfort during the treatment.

The Common FAQs About Juvederm Volbella XC Filler

Once the filler enters the target area, it starts moving through the skin, filling in spaces and smoothing out wrinkles, which immediately improves your look. The primary ingredient in Voluma XC is hyaluronic acid, which is a sugar our bodies naturally produce. Hyaluronic acid is capable of attracting and holding onto 1,000 times its weight in water to plump and define.

From start to finish, the treatment can take 15 to 60 minutes depending on the areas treated and the degree of deflation. There may be some initial swelling and/or bruising that subsides over the coming days, so it can take up to a few weeks for the final results to be fully noticeable. The result is smoother skin that’s better defined, less wrinkles and more contoured.

There are a few things you can do to maintain your new look for as long as possible. First, avoid alcohol in the initial settling period. Alcohol is a diuretic, and it will work in opposition to the results you want to achieve from your filler. Also, avoid excess sun exposure, which can break down the hyaluronic acid. Daily use of mineral sunscreen is best and during your consultation our staff will create a customized treatment plan so you know exactly what to do to preserve your desired look.

Although results vary from patient to patient, you can typically expect to see excellent results for at least six months following your treatment. Some patients have reported that effects have lasted up to two years.

In the Juvederm clinical trial, the most common side effects were temporary responses at the treatment site, such as swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, and lumps or bumps. All of these side effects typically subsided within two weeks or less. In the event that a serious reaction occurs, which is rare, Juvederm Voluma XC can be reversed with injections of hyaluronidase, which degrades the filler.

What Our Clients Say

Patient satisfaction is our number one priority at Coastal Aesthetics

What other services does Coastal Aesthetics offer that might help my skin?

The common uses of Juvederm products include getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. All Juvederm products are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component found in the skin that keeps it plump and radiant.

Voluma XC and its sister product Volbella XC each cross-link higher and lower amounts of hyaluronic acid, which allows Juvederm to tailor their dermal fillers more specifically through each type. If you love Voluma XC and want to create a cohesively younger appearance, you might want to try Botox, which reduces wrinkles, or fat-eliminating Kybella. These are patient favorites made by Allergan, the same parent company that makes  Juvederm and sets the industry standard for dermal fillers.

Botox is the first and only FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator to decrease moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. It delivers predictable, subtle results that allow you to still look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines caused by muscle movement. This treatment requires minimal downtime, and you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office.

Kybella might be right for you if you’re unhappy or self-conscious about the fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness. Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the area under the chin to improve your profile. This treatment also requires minimal downtime (swelling is typical of the procedure)  and allows you to return to your daily routine immediately after leaving your specialist’s office.

When you come in for your initial consultation, our talented medical team can answer all your questions and help you design an optimal treatment plan to meet all your aesthetic needs.
