Top 10 Questions About Laser Hair Removal with Soprano ICE

How does Soprano ICE work?

Soprano ICE is an advanced hair removal platform. This unit incorporates multiple laser wavelengths and technologies. As a result, it offers more versatility to treat the broadest range of people and hair types. The best thing about Soprano ICE is that it allows us to treat your unwanted hair in a safe and virtually painless way that is still highly effective.

Why does laser hair removal require more than one treatment?

Laser hair removal requires more than one treatment because hair grows in cycles. For the treatment to be effective, the strand must be in the anagen phase of its growth cycle to impair it enough that hair will not regrow. In addition, not all follicles are in the same growth phase simultaneously, so multiple treatments are required. On average, after 8-10 treatments, 80-90% of unwanted hair will be eliminated, and you can treat any subsequent hair growth with a touch-up treatment as needed.

Do medications affect laser hair removal?

If you have any questions about medications, feel free to call us, our well-trained staff will answer any questions you have. If you’ve been on certain medications, such as Accutane, we recommend being off the drug for 12 months before starting treatment. Similarly, some antibiotics can make your skin more sensitive to light. If you are on antibiotics or start taking antibiotics while getting your treatment, we might need to delay or pause your treatment schedule. Typically it only takes about 7-10 days after taking your last dose before it’s safe to resume your treatments. At Coastal, we care about your skin and want your recovery to be comfortable. Waiting a few extra days to complete your treatment could help you avoid burns or blisters, and we want to ensure you have a pain-free experience.

Does your hair color or skin tone affect treatment?

Soprano ICE has been proven safe and effective for all body parts and is approved for all skin types. Unfortunately, this laser is the most effective on pigmented hair and isn’t effective on white hair that has no pigment. However, this is an excellent solution for all other hair and skin types (even tanned skin!)

Can you shave or wax between treatments?

Yes! Shaving is perfectly acceptable between treatments, but we recommend avoiding waxing, plucking, and tweezing.

Where does laser hair removal work best?

Although Soprano ICE hair removal has been approved safe and effective on all body areas, the legs, underarms, and bikini areas are the most commonly treated areas. Still, some people treat their back, toes, or facial hair.

How often do you need treatments?

Although every patient responds slightly differently to laser hair removal, the average patient schedules treatments at one-month intervals. For best results, remember to follow your pre and post-treatment protocol recommended to you by the team at Coastal Aesthetics. Most patients are satisfied with their results after 8-12 treatments and report smooth, soft skin, although you might notice small amounts of regrowth. This can especially be common if your body has gone through a hormonal shift (such as menopause). In addition, you might desire a touch-up treatment; these are usually not needed more than once a year and can restore the smooth skin you want.

How can you prepare for laser treatments?

This is one of the most common questions we get, and there are a few steps to keep in mind before your treatment to ensure the most effective treatment.

  • It’s important to shave the area you want to treat the day of your sessions or the morning before
  • Use SPF 30 or greater throughout your treatment
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure for two days before and after treatment
  • Avoid bleaching, plucking, or waxing hair for six weeks before treatment
  • Avoid self-tanning creams two weeks before treatment

Am I a good candidate for Soprano ICE?

If you are bothered by unwanted hair, you might be a good candidate for Soprano ICE. As technology has advanced, most women and men are considered suitable candidates for laser hair removal. Patients with darker hair and lighter skin typically achieve the best results with the fewest treatments. However, all skin types and colors can dramatically reduce hair growth. During your initial consultation, the team at Coastal Aesthetics will assess your skin type to determine the appropriate laser settings for your treatment.
