Semaglutide Weight Loss Injections

Overview

Semaglutide has garnered attention as a promising treatment for obesity. Initially developed as a medication to manage type 2 diabetes, semaglutide has demonstrated efficacy in promoting weight loss when administered specifically for this purpose. Yet, the quest for effective and safe weight loss solutions persists, and semaglutide has continued to make waves since its FDA approval in 2021 as a highly effective weight loss treatment.

At Coastal Aesthetics, we are pleased to offer semaglutide weight loss injections.

What Is Semaglutide

Losing weight can become increasingly challenging as we age. Stress, hormonal changes, a slowing metabolism, and energy levels often influence weight gain. If diet and exercise alone aren’t yielding the desired results, a weight loss program that includes semaglutide can offer the support needed to shed those stubborn pounds and achieve your aesthetic goals.

Semaglutide, also known as Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), is a weekly injectable medication that stimulates insulin release, slows gastric motility, reduces appetite, and stabilizes blood sugar. On average, it leads to a weight loss of about one to two pounds per week on average.

Originally developed to treat diabetes, semaglutide’s weight loss benefits were discovered, making it a safe and effective treatment for those who struggle to lose weight. By mimicking the activity of the hormone GLP-1, semaglutide influences the brain to regulate appetite and food intake and reduce food cravings. It’s the first FDA-approved drug for weight management in obese or overweight adults, addressing a severe health issue affecting over 70% of Americans.

Natural. Conservative. Beauty.

How Does It Work In The Body?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist so it encourages the pancreas to release insulin appropriately while slowing down stomach emptying, resulting in slowed digestion, reduced appetite, and better stabilized blood sugar and energy levels. The medication tells the brain that the body is full and has had enough food, so patients feel full and satiated, thereby reducing the need to feel as if they need to continue eating. This suppression of appetite helps individuals eat less, leading to an average weight loss of up to two pounds per week with weekly injections. Semaglutide is best for those with a BMI of at least 30.

Studies have demonstrated semaglutide’s effectiveness in weight loss, with a significant percentage of participants achieving substantial weight reduction when combined with lifestyle changes. However, discontinuing semaglutide may result in weight regain, emphasizing the importance of long-term management, lifestyle modifications, and healthy eating habits.

An Overview of Semaglutide

Semaglutide’s growing demand has led to its use for weight management under other brand names, such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. These options offer solutions for individuals facing medication shortages, particularly those managing diabetes.

  • Wegovy, a once-weekly injectable medication by Novo Nordisk, targets individuals with obesity or overweight with associated health conditions.
  • Starting with a low dose, healthcare providers gradually increase Wegovy until the maintenance dosage is 2.4 mg weekly.
  • On average, users experience significant weight loss and reduced cravings over an extended period.
  • Common side effects like nausea and diarrhea may be experienced at first but diminish over time.
  • Similarly, Ozempic, also by Novo Nordisk, is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes management and may be prescribed off-label for weight loss.
  • Administered weekly, healthcare providers adjust the dose of Ozempic until achieving a maintenance dose of 1 or 2 mg.
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common side effects, which lessen as treatment continues and the body adapts to Ozempic.
  • Studies show notable weight loss in individuals with type 2 diabetes using Ozempic, with significant reductions observed within three months of starting treatment.

How Is It Administered?

Semaglutide comes in single-use, pre-filled syringes, each containing one dose. To administer the treatment, which can be done in the office or at home and used with or without food, remove the cap, press the syringe needle against the skin, insert it below skin level and inject the medication. It will be delivered subcutaneously. Most patients inject the medication into their upper arm, belly, or thigh. Administering the shot on the same day and time every week is recommended makes it easy to stick to a routine.
